SUMMARY:
While her boyfriend tinkers with a car engine, fifteen-year-old
Annie wanders through the nearby, soon-to-be-demolished Stratton Mansion,
longing for a more gracious and romantic way of life. Suddenly she falls
through 100 years and lands in 1895, just in time to witness a murder.
Annie meets Hiram “Strat” Stratton, who will inherit the family
fortune if he marries his cousin Harriet. Annie alters many lives when
she falls in love with Strat.
Annie realizes that the 1890's
are not her time and makes a transition back to the present. There she
confronts her unhappiness with her present boyfriend and deals with her
parents’ unhappy marital situation. As Annie searches through the
library's archives to find out what happened to Strat and his family,
she realizes she has to return to the past to help the maid who was wrongfully
accused of murder in her place.
Upon on her return to the past,
the real murderer is accused, but Strat incurs the wrath of his evil,
wealthy-industrialist father over Annie. As Strat tries to take Annie
away from the danger and turmoil, however, she falls back through time
again.
