SUMMARY:
Kevin Spreekmeester can’t believe he has just won a photography
contest! He and his best friend Ian decided to enter the contest when
the learned they would get the day off school to participate. As a fluke,
Kevin won the contest because of a shutter glitch in his broken camera.
His prize was a five-day trip to Churchill, Manitoba, to photograph polar
bears with a famous wildlife photographer. It all sounded pretty good
- a week off school to take pictures of some bears. Kevin just hopes he
can convince his controlling parents to let him go.
While Kevin is visiting Churchill,
he makes ‘friends’ with one of the locals, Loretta. When things
happen in Churchill that raise questions, Kevin and Loretta decide to
do some investigating on their own. Their investigation takes them on
an adventure through the tundra of northern Manitoba, stowing away on
the enemies’ buggy, and narrowly escaping the clutches of a polar
bear.
