SUMMARY:
Ellen and Annemarie are best friends living in Nazi-occupied Denmark in 1943. Lately their lives are filled with food shortages, armed Nazi soldiers in their town, and adults' whispered worries. When the Jews of Denmark are forced to “relocate,” Ellen moves in with Annemarie's family and pretends to be part of the family. When Ellen's family attempts to escape to Sweden, Annemarie is faced with a challenge. She must bravely execute her part of the plan if her friend's family is to escape.
