SUMMARY:
The Kenora Thistles are a “one off team” in 1890. Kenora (or Rat Portage as it was called then), was lucky to have them…but they aspired to more. This is the tale of how they came together in Northern Ontario to play as a cohesive, fantastic team, outlining their struggles, their changing roster, and their many years of bad luck. Eventually their success over the “Montreal Wanderers,” which became known as “one of the hardest fought battles in hockey history,” resulted in their capturing the Stanley Cup.

WHO WOULD LOVE THIS BOOK? A kid who...
- is interested in sports or the history of sports
- is a hockey fanatic
- likes stories of real events

WHAT ELSE?
This is a short and easy read about the history of the Kenora Thistles in 1890. It reads like watching a hockey game and listening to the play by play, and includes a glossary of hockey and history terms. The chapters end with a footnote about a hockey fact and the chapters include photos of the teams.
