Message from Helga Bailey, Chairperson

After 32 years as a classroom teacher and 5 more as a Trustee, I am honoured to serve a second term as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Essex County District School Board. I am proud to be part of an organization whose staff demonstrates a culture of learning and caring so that students can find their pathway to success.
Our team of Trustees has vision, a strong collective voice and values quality public education. As individuals, we offer a diverse range of experience, knowledge, backgrounds and opinions and I believe those differences make us stronger. Trustees are accountable for student achievement and we are committed and determined to have a positive impact on the lives of our students and staff.
We have genuine appreciation for our Director of Education, Warren Kennedy and his talented senior administration team. They give our Board consistent and effective day-to-day leadership and support the expertise of 47 hundred employees who regularly enrich the lives of our students and their families. It is a never ending pursuit of excellence, which relies on strong relationships with parents and community partners.
There are many reasons to be proud of the quality of education provided in the Greater Essex County District School Board, which can be measured not only by academic achievement but by the character and citizenship our students demonstrate.  There are also many challenges to face in the year ahead, but it is my hope to continue our effectiveness and improve our efficiency while remaining on the path of building tomorrow together.
