Our Community
The Greater
Essex County District School Board serves a large and diverse
community. Geographically, it stretches from Tilbury, west
to LaSalle, and from the Detroit River south to Pelee Island
in Lake Erie. Socially it is inclusive of people from a
wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, different
religions, and national origins.
Our schools ...
We are
physically connected by our network of 62 public elementary
and 15 secondary schools. Emotionally we are linked by
the conviction that all students should be provided with
a safe, stimulating, caring, and welcoming environment
in which to learn.
We are a vital part of the community... The Greater
Essex County District School Board is also a vital part
of the community it serves. Local groups and organizations
regularly use our facilities. We also partner with them
and a number of businesses and commercial interests to
enhance the impact of public education in our area. But
the GECDSB is more than structures and principles; it is
people. Approximately 4 thousand staff members live in
the neighbourhoods in which they work along with 37 thousand
students who take part in community service and activities
well beyond the requirements of the curriculum.
We want to hear from you... It is
our objective to maintain open lines of communication with
everyone in our community. Inquiries into GECDSB programs
and procedures are always welcomed.
