The Wacky World of Words!

Language Arts

I always figured that the English language was designed by a committee of people, none of whom spoke the same language and sent in their suggestions for words on a napkin. Someone, somewhere put all of these odd collections together and ended up with something that could only be studied, dissected, and declared a trying academic exercise.

I mean, who would put an "s" in lisp? Whoever thought that including "your", "you're", "yore" in the same language and expecting everyone to not only know the difference but use it correctly. And, just in case people start to catch on, let's throw in "pseudonym" as an extra challenge.

Can you make it fun? You bet. This site is great! I have to admire the originality of the webmaster in pulling together so many fun activities with the ultimate goal of learning words and the language.

Language and mathematics are a wonderful combination for me. I enjoy working my way through the puzzles like:

the last half of fume + the last 3/5 of petal

in the Fractured Fractions area.

How about similes?

strong or stronger ... the bond between mother and child

The site features links to the following: Compound Clues, Words Within Words, Numbletters, Alpha-Spells, Fractured Fractions, Rhyming Buddies, A-Z Lists, Anagrams, Oxymorons, and Mystery Word.

If you're looking for a quick and easily accessible link to activities like this, then the Wacky World of Words should be yore next stop.
