Expectations Assessment

The students will:

  • mix, identify, match, and blend colours
  • plan and organize compositions and have a sense of design and symmetry
  • experiment with design and colour
  • experiment with many different tools
  • children develop fine motor control and improve quality of product
  • learn based on their mistakes/experiments
  • develop hand/eye coordination

Through observation and direct communication, assess whether the student:

Stages Of Development

Manipulative Stage
The child:

  • experiments with brush and colours
  • uses very little language
  • works alone

 

Symbolic Stage
The child:

  • paints unrelated objects
  • begins to make objects that are recognizable to the child
  • begins to attach language to the symbols s/he makes

Organizational Stage
The child:

  • plans and organizes compositions
  • uses a variety of materials and pays attention to details
  • uses appropriate vocabulary
  • is able to work out problems independently
