When you download a file from First Class, where does it go? That's a good question. The answer is that it is in a folder entitled downloads which is in the First Class folder which is in the Program Files folder which is on Drive C:, provided you installed it on Drive C:, the default. Whew!
The common wisdom is that you should always download any attached file to your hard drive, scan it with your virus scanner and then do what you will with it. Great advice. The second step is to make the file easily available and one way is to redirect the attachment to somewhere "easy" in order to locate the attached file. Generally, most people decide to save to their computer's desktop so that it's easily located after the fact.
Of course, it would be nice to have something more sophisticated. How about this? What if we were to create a folder on the computer's desktop and call it something noteworthy, like "Doug's Downloads". As well, we'd like all downloads to go there automatically instead of doing the hard drive shuffle for each download. Here's how.
Step 1. Create the folder on your desktop and call it "Doug's Downloads".
Step 2. In First Class itself, we want to change the preference so that all downloads go to this new folder. We do that by selecting the EDIT menu and then PREFERENCES.

Near the bottom of this dialogue window, you'll see that there is room to specify the location of the Download Folder. You can either type it very carefully (gasp) or click on the Browse button and locate the folder.
Click on OK and you're done. From now on, your downloads will automatically go to this folder where you'll virus check them and then do whatever you would like with them. But, remember, you WILL virus check them.
