eTeacher: Review

New users of eTeacher may find it useful to follow these steps.
  • Create your comments in the Comment Library
  • Enter marks for your students in the Mark List view of the Report Card Maker.
  • Go to the Comments view of the Report Card Maker.
  • Because you have entered marks for your students their names will be colour coded depending on their achievement level; Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 and R.
  • You can then flag all the students that achieved a specific achievement level by clicking on the appropriate button.
  • With the correct students flagged click on the flag at the end of the comment you want to give to these flagged students. This works pretty well for subjects with only one mark and/or strand.

In subjects with several strands such as Mathematics you will likely want to give a statement to students for their achievement in a particular strand.

  • To do this click on a students name on the list in the Comments view that has achieved a certain level.
  • For example if we want to give a level 3 statement for Data Management we can click once on the name of a student in the class who scored a level 3 in Data Management. His/Her comment box will appear along with his/her marks.
  • Click on the small box next to his/her Data Management mark.
  • A flag will appear next to each student who achieved the same level as this student in Data Management.

  • Now click once on the flag for the statement you want to give these level 3 Data Management students.

Why do some students have double comments?

When in the Comments view of the Report Card Maker if you click on a comment it will be given to the student who is highlighted in your class list. So if this is one of the students that you later flag when you are distributing a comment the student will have the comment twice - once when you clicked on the comment initially and once when you flagged the students and clicked the flag for the comment.

If you want to see the comment before sending it to the students make sure there is an (X) next to Preview Comments. If you have Preview Comments selected when you click on a comment, a box will appear previewing what that comment will look like in the highlighted student's comment box. Click Cancel when you are finished previewing the comment. Then follow the normal procedure for flagging and distributing the comment to the flagged students.

eTeacher asks me every time I quit if I want to make a backup. Why do I have to save my tab file?

You should backup eTeacher every time you quit. Several files are saved during the backup process. These files can be used to restore all of the information in eTeacher if something goes seriously wrong with the program or if you have to upgrade to a newer version. However the tab file you must submit to the office is not one of these files. Therefore BEFORE choosing to exit the program you must go to the Report area of eTeacher and click on Submit Data File. You must save your file in the eT Format. If you need more detailed instructions contact your CAIT.
