Laptop Carts This past summer saw laptop carts purchased and installed in 26 elementary and 2 secondary school. The carts are higher end computers with high resolution screens that open up possibilities for computer use never attempted before. Computers are used in different ways in different schools. Some schools put a group of computers together in a lab setting or as a corner of the Resource Centre. Students get the opportunities to use this technology as access time to the computers becomes available. In other settings, one or more computers form a resource area within a single classroom. Students cycle through these computers, often in a centre approach, to use the hardware and software to enhance their studies. Laptop carts add another dimension. Now, instead of booking a trip to the library to get the technology, it can be rolled into your classroom. Plug the access point into the wall and voila, your laptops are on the network and also on the student desk. If you only need 4 computers for a particular lesson, only take 4 from the cart. This type of implementation adds another level of flexibility of access to computer technology. As ideas are developed, look for increasing success using this mode of computer access. Locally Created Palm Applications There are a number of Palm applications that you may find helpful to load on your Palm. From the Teachers' Essentials CD-ROM, you'll find an updated school listing with the latest of principal changes. Thanks to Jamie Lamb from D.M.Eagle who suggested adding the Fax numbers to each school. Since Jamie is a sports convenor and so he does a lot of faxing. Now, he has that reference on his Palm.
