Placing Calculations on a Number Line
http://www.mathsframe.co.uk/placecalcsmulti.swf

Nothing helps the learning of mathematics more than the ability to visualize just what is happening. It's very important when the concept is estimating. To help with all of this, this interactive learning object helps display the results from calculations on number lines as a result of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.

The results are very crisp and clean and the interaction when displayed on a SMARTBoard will really help students visualize just what the calculation looks like.

The Incredible Polo

Hey, the band is getting back together.

Well, maybe not, but you can create your own band by adding members and adjusting instruments, percussion, effects, and so much more. This is another very engaging drag and drop activity, suited for the SMARTBoard, to help students dig deeper into a given topic.

And, it's a lot of fun too!

Rhyme Race
http://www.aartpack.com/diglesson/rhymerace/index.html

Rhyming and Racing? That's quick a combination but it plays out nicely with the SMARTBoard, your speakers, and some grouping or as a centre.

Clicking on the blue die gives you a number to move your playing piece around the board in the race to finish. Along the way, success is achieved by identifying appropriate rhyming words.

Comic Vocabulary
http://readwritethink.org/materials/comic/vocabulary.html

So, if you'll agree with all of the suggestions about the use of Comic Life and Bitstrips for Schools that are not so subtlely included in this newsletter, you'll want to make sure that your students know and use the vocabulary of comics properly.

The folks at Read, Write, Think have created this interactive object to help with the learning. Explore the language of comics as it applies to text, layout, and angles. The content is just as appropriate for primary comic writing as it is for the secondary school Communications Technology course.

Virtual Pumpkin

We've got to have a little fun (and geometry, symmetry, ...) in time for Hallowe'en. The folks at Better Homes and Gardens provide a great tool for a little SMARTBoard virtual pumpkin carving.

Choose die cuts or just go freehand. Can you do a better pumpkin that me?
