Women in Technology at Sandwich West Public School The third round of Women in Technology landed at Sandwich West Public School. Unlike the previous sessions, only the Grade 8 girls were involved in the event due to the size of the school. Once again, a successful and reflective session was held for the girls with the goal of encouraging them to pursue studies in mathematics, science, and technology. The Women in Technology team was also pleased to welcome some additional mentors to the cadre that have been with the project since Belle River. Everyone Learns - A Blended ICT Solutions Project Leamington District Secondary School, Mill Street Public School, and Pelee Island Public School are all participating in an Ontario Knowledge Network for Learning project investigating a Blended Technology solution. What's a Blended Technology solution? Basically, it's an attempt to compare new, relatively new, and experienced computers in a classroom environment. But, we do that all the time. There just isn't enough money to purchase new technology every year. What's different about this project? This project hopefully addresses the question, not only of blended technology, but enough of it in the right places with the right support with software to support the premise of not only of doing things differently, but doing different things. Experiences learned through the project will be posted to a public website as the project develops. In terms of the "enough technology" component, each classroom at Mill Street and Pelee Island, along with the Mathematics and English classrooms at Leamington DSS will have 5 student workstations and a computer on the teachers' desks all wired to the school's fileservers and the Internet. Software designed to help student process information will be access, as appropriate. In addition, caching internet technologies will allow teachers to "order" websites cached on a day's notice for Internet access at local network speeds. The project promises to be exciting and details will be released on the "Everyone Learns" website as it unfolds.
