This month -- creating creative rules.

With the new First Class 8 server and an up to date client, there are lots of things that you can do to control how messages that are received end up being displayed.

For example, any message that you receive from me should be highly visible because it probably contains important information. (as if!)

Here's how....

From the Collaborate Menu, select Rules. This will open a new window where you can define as many rules as you wish that will be run on messages received or sent that meet certain criteria. To define a particular rule, from the File Menu, select New Advanced Rule.

In the top box, give your rule a name. In this case, I'm calling it "Mail from Doug".

Now, the actions that you ask First Class to take are defined. So, when a "Message Received" has "The sender" with the exact name "Doug Peterson", I ask First Class to do some things immediately.

First, I have it "Set Icon" to the cute little red dog that's in the icon set. Just click the little box and a popup will give you all of the icons that are available.

Now, if one action is good, a lot of actions are better! So, clicking on the "+" sign lets me define more actions. So.... I set the priority of the message to "Urgent", I automatically generate a reply, and because green is my favourite colour, I'll turn the text colour of the message header green in my mailbox. In this manner, I'll always be able to find messages from Doug Peterson easily. They'll stand out so much in my mailbox!
