The Hyperpage

This month --- A Picture Show NBA!

New Button Actions (NBAs) are terrific. They are hooks into the Hyperstudio program that let programmers add additional functionality to an already ultra-functional program.

One of the new New Button Actions is one entitled Picture Show.

Here's the scenario...you're doing a project and all of your authors have a picture of themselves taken with the school's digital camera. Before this New Button Action, you would create a card for each of the students and put a picture on each card. Add a button to each card and you click your way through the gallery of images. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but with a team of 10 students, that requires 10 cards.

The Picture Show NBA makes it just that much easier. WIth this NBA, you simply put all of the images in the same folder and tell Picture Show where that folder is. With an adjustable set of parameters, you sit back and watch Hyperstudio and the NBA work their way through your entire folder showing each image.

As shown above, there are some interesting options for this NBA. You could simply have it sit there and display images non-stop. Give each of the images a descriptive filename and have the NBA show it on the screen for you! You can even adjust Picture Show to control how long the images are displayed on the computer screen.

Keep this NBA in mind the next time you have a project that calls for a continuous display of images within the stack. It can save you considerable time and effort.

Hyperstudio Festival!

I'm pleased to announce that, due to the success of the Hyperstudio Festival that was held last year, a Hyperstudio Festival will once again be held to celebrate the efforts of our students' multimedia authoring.

When?
You can start as soon as it works into your schedule. The Festival will conclude in time to celebrate during Education Week 2002.

What?
The purpose is to celebrate how multimedia authoring fits into the curriculum. Any project with ties to the Ontario Curriculum is welcome. While Hyperstudio lends itself to Social Studies nicely, it can be used in all kinds of situations. Turn your students free to be creative.

How Many?
To keep it manageable, there are a limit of 6 entries per school.

Stack Size?
Entries must have no fewer than 5 cards per stack and no more than 20 cards per stack. In addition, a cover card will be made available to be placed as the first card in the stack to identify school, topic, etc.

Inspiration?
Just what can be done? Check with your school's CIESC and look for the CD-ROM that was created last year composed of all of the entries.

Good Luck! Those that participated last year really enjoyed the excitement that was generated as students worked towards a final product.
