Poetry, as a writing tool, has stood the test of time. From the beginning of time, or at least since Guttenberg invented the printing press, poetry has become one of the most popular styles of writing. It has helped men get women , inspired great speech writers, started wars, and brought about peace. Poetry is the basis for such writing tools as metaphors, similes, alliteration and personification.
