First Class Email Tips and Tricks

One of our monthly readers of GEC Computers in the Classroom is Quentin Docherty from Bluewater District School Board.  Quentin has the position of Computer Resource Teacher and he does the same sort of things that our CAITs do.

In his job, Quentin has created a number of handouts to help Bluewater teachers with various activities surrounding the use of their First Class system.  In an act of generosity, he has offered to share them with our board through this newsletter.

Hi Doug, et al, I didn't know if you wanted a couple of ideas for your First Class Tips and Tricks articles.
We enjoy reading your online magazine up here in the frozen north (as we sit by the woodstove praying for a snow day...).

I still haven't figured out how you guys can find the time and energy to put the magazine together, but it's great stuff! take care,

Quentin

These may be timely tips if you're inspired to download some of the Working Smarter documents referred to earlier.

Uploading Files:
The first handout deals with the process of attaching a file to a message.   Remember that First Class will let you create a new message and that message actually can have a file attached, as part of the message.  Click here for the Bluewater document.

Downloading Files:
The reverse is also true.  Suppose you and a teacher at another school were working collaboratively on a document.  Or, you're an elementary school teacher and you want to send your report card work to home and back.  You can then download a file that is attached to your message.  Click here for the Bluewater document detailing how to perform that.

Teachable Moment!
Trust nobody.  (even me)  Sending and receiving files via attachments to electronic mail is an incredibly easy way to spread viruses.  Before you send a file to anyone, you should run your virus checker on the file.  Before you do anything with a file that someone sends you, you should run your virus checker on it.   Trust nobody.
