There are a lot of things to customize about your private mailbox. Don't feel like you have to work with it "out of the box". On the other hand, be careful to make sure that you don't customize yourself out of reading mail!
If you receive a great deal of email from the Internet, you'll note that the Internet email addresses can be very long. If you'd like to be able to see the entire address, move your cursor over the title bar. (in grey below) When you get over an area that is adjustable, your cursor will change to a vertical bar with a couple of arrow heads on either side. While the cursor is in this form, hold your left mouse button and adjust the size to the left or the right. The column width for that information about your mail will be adjusted accordingly. It's a slick way to see email addresses and subject lines, in particular, without actually opening the message.

You've probably noticed that First Class assumes that there are certain things about your messages that you need to know. You can customize it a little further, if desired. Right click (or CTRL-CLICK for Macintosh users) and you'll see the following menu...

Go through and pick and choose those things that you wish to appear displayed for the messages in your mailbox.
