Freehand

And, then there's Freehand. While Fireworks MX works with bitmap images, Freehand is the choice for working with vector graphics. The difference? Bitmaps are created by combinations of little dots to form the image. Digital cameras and scanners generate that type of image. Vector images, on the other hand, are created by putting shapes and paths together to draw the image. Why one over the other? The difference becomes obvious when you take a bitmap image and a vector image and stretch them to make them bigger. With a bitmap image, you're now making the dots that form the image bigger with the result being that it takes on a ragged image. With a vector image, the image remains true because the original was composed by an algorithm that defines what the image looks like. Change the algorithm parameters and a new image is, in effect, created for you with the new dimensions. http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/freehandtutorials/
About.com is a great repository of things that you need to "know about". In this case, you're going to want to know about Freehand!
