The Hyperpage

This month ... navigation made easy ...

Since Hyperstudio lets authors become incredibly creative in a short period of time, it is not surprising that after a while the current project has become so large that it's difficult to remember what content is on what page.

Those who have taken the Hyperstudio mini-course will use the paper planning form to ensure that they have complete control over what goes where. From the form, if you know that you need to get to page three in a hurry, select "Jump to Card" from the Move Menu, enter card number 3 and Hyperstudio will take you directly to that particular card. If you are editing or making changes, you're all set.

There's another way and it gives you some distinct advantages when you use it. Instead of using the Move Menu, select the "Storyboard" from the Extras Menu.

Hyperstudio will respond by opening a new windows with a storyboard consisting of thumbnail sketches of all of the cards in your current stack.

Across the bottom, select the "Go to Card" option to immediately display the card full screen.

Note that there is also a "Delete" option that will let you remove a card from the current stack. Nice feature.

But there's also one other terrific feature. Suppose that, even after putting hours and hours into the planning for the current stack, you change your mind about the order of the cards in your stack. No problem. From the "Storyboard" on your screen, point to one of the cards that you'd like to move, hold down your left mouse button and drag & drog that card into place.

Voila! Your stack has been shuffled and the new card is in place. You'll never have to give the excuse "I planned it that way" to make apologies for cards out of place again!
