Cutting Cookies
The Cookie Cutter was always a fun feature of working with Hyperstudio. With the release of Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 for Macintosh and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 for Windows, you now can cut cookies on any image. Read on to find out how.

This all started with a message about the Christmas for Canines fundraiser to raise funds for the local humane society. I bought one of the packages and it included a bandana for your dog. Here's mine!

Let's fire up Adobe Photoshop Elements and bring the picture into the program.

Make sure that you're using Full Edit and not Quick Fix so that you have all of the options available to you.

The Cookie Cutting tool looks like a little star and appears in the toolbar.

When you select this tool, a collection of patterns and some options appears at the top of the image window.

Notice that the Shapes icon opens a good collection of pre-defined shapes to choose from.

Move the window slider to see all of the choices and click on the little circle at the top to fly out all of the shapes categorized by type.

I'm going to choose the dog bone. It's a particularly nice shape for a dachshund. Starting to the top and left of the image, I'm going to draw a dog bone shape over top of my image. Once drawn, the 8 corner and mid handles on the bone let me reshape, resize, and rotate the bone until I get just what I want.

The green checkmark approves this edit. Save it and you've cookie cut your image!

Explore with the shapes - you can have a lot of fun.

And, just in time for Valentine's Day, check out the heart shaped cutters!
