GECDSB Announcements
http://www.gecdsb.on.ca/board/announcements/

Available from the Student Reference Portal, the GECDSB homepage, or directly from the link above are school based announcements. Through the Director's Office, a network of Key Communicators provide information about the exciting things that are happening in Greater Essex County Public Schools.

With the new year, all of the announcements from September through December have been archived. You may still link to them through the announcement page. But, with the new year come new announcements. Check this regularly to find out what's happening.

New in 2007, the announcements page also features an RSS feed so that your browser can stay in touch even when you forget to check it out manually.

New Centennial Central Website

Centennial Central Public School in Comber has a new look on its website. With a brilliant green for the background, you can check out the staff and things that are happening at one of our eastern-most schools

One of the things that I always enjoy is reading about this history of the school. I didn't realize until I checked out the new site that the older part of the school was actually a high school at one point!

It was holiday time at J.E. Benson Public School and they've got the pictures to prove it!

Follow the Events link on the left and you'll see lots of pictures to celebrate the events of the year.

A large collection of images are displayed documenting the Grade 3 event. Click on a thumbnail to see the original image.

Media Literacy Internet Resources
http://www.gecdsb.on.ca/d&g/media.htm

A new page has been added to the GECDSB Computers in the Classroom website. This page will be devoted to identifying the very best of internet resources to assist addressing expectations in the new Media Literacy strand.

The initial content was generated from the elementary school Computers in Education School contacts and the content will grow as people suggest links to be included.

Have you found a good resource for Media Literacy? Send me the link and I'll add it to this resource.

Online Databases
http://www.gecdsb.on.ca/d&g/portal/subscriptions.htm

From the Student Reference Portal, there are links to all kinds of databases that are available for students and teachers to conduct their research. Some are free on the internet and others are password protected. With the appropriate password, they are accessible both at school and from at home.

Recently, the Knowledge Ontario initiative has promised even more access to commercial databases for students and teachers. Consequently, it was decided to create an online Virtual Library link page to these databases.

This resource can be accessed from the Student Reference Portal or directly from the link above. If you require the remote password to access these resources from at home, contact your school's teacher librarian.
