The following Webquest was created by Teacher Librarian Susan Moroz from John A. McWilliam Public School for use with her Grade 7 students. After having read a novel in Language Arts, Susan was interested in having student further their research by directing them to appropriate Internet Resources. The resulting Webquest appears below in its entirety. For the actual Webquest without this text, visit the John A. McWilliam Public School Website.

Introduction

This web quest is a small part of your large independent novel study. You have now chosen and read an award winning work of young adult fiction. The next step is to complete all four tasks on this web quest. This web quest is designed to be an independent activity, but if you require assistance at any time, please ask for it. Here, you are asked to complete some specific tasks based on your novel. You may also gain knowledge that will help you complete many of the other activities required by your independent novel study. This web quest is designed to be used in conjunction with your novel study student package.

Task One

  • Conduct research on the award your book received. Include the award's history, criteria for selection, and any other interesting facts you discover about the award. State the year your book received the award. Read through the list of past winners (of your award and others) and create a reading plan for the next year.

Process

  • Go to any of the following websites to complete the tasks above. Use a word processor to create your report.
