Drill File
All The Right Type tracks the performance of students
in the lessons, tests, etc. You can create your own lessons in the
Utility Centre and assign them to your class. However if you assign
your class another set of drills you will lose the recorded performances
on the standard All The Right Type exercises. In order to avoid
losing this information we will create a duplicate class and assign
the new drills to this duplicate class. |
- Click the Recordfile button on the top of the
screen. It looks like a yellow filing cabinet.

- The list of Recordfiles will appear with all
of the class lists that have been previously created.
- Click once on the class i.e., 5M, you want to
give the special keyboarding drills to to highlight the class
- With the class highlighted click the Copy button.
- The New Recordfile window will appear requesting
that you provide a name for this recordfile. Use your keyboard
to enter a name for this recordfile. Make the name something similar
to the name or the current class i.e. 5M. For example if 5M is
the class name the new recordfile 5M Spelling. This will indicate
that the class will review vocabulary in their keyboarding drills.
Click OK when you are finished entering the name.
- This creates a second recordfile for your class.
- Now that the duplicate class is created you
can create drills for it.

- Click the blue Drill files button at the top
of the screen. It looks like a blue filing cabinet.

- The Drill files window will appears. Click the
New button.
- The New Drill File window will appear requesting
that you provide a name for this this collection of Lessons, Skill
Builders and Tests. Use your keyboard to enter a name for this
recordfile. Make the name something that will help you to easily
identify it i.e., Vocabulary Drills. Then click OK.

- You can create Lessons, Skill Builders and Tests
for your Drill File.

- Click on Lesson and then click the Add Drill
button at the top.

- A new lesson window will open. After entering
a descriptive name for it in the Description box at the top use
your keyboard to add words, phrases or sentences to your lesson.
You can enter a maximum of twenty lines in your lessons. Click
the Save button on the bottom when you are done.
- When you are finished entering the words, phrases
or sentences for that lesson close the window.
- Your new lessons will appear in the list of
drills for the drillfile you have created. To create a Skill Builder
or Test make that selection at the top of your drill file window
and create the skill builders and tests in the same manner as
you did the lessons.
- Close the drillfile window.
- Now you must assign this drillfile to the class
you created earlier.
- If the class (recordfile) you created earlier
is not open use the Recordfile button to open it.
- Click on the first name on your list once to
highlight it.

- With the name highlighted click the Student
Options button at the top.

- When the Student Options window appears click
the Drillfile button once.
- Click OK when the next message appears.

- Click once on the drillfile you created with
your personalized lessons, skill builders and tests to select
it. Then click OK.
- Click the Save button at the bottom.
- Click Apply To All
- Click OK.
- Exit the Utility Centre when you have finished
now you students will be able to practice their keyboarding skills
with drills you created.

Drill Files
All The Right Type tracks the performance of students

losing this information we will create a duplicate class and assign
the new drills to this duplicate class.
- From the File menu choose Open.
- The list of Recordfiles will appear with all
of the class lists that have been previously created.
- Click once on your class to select it. In this
example we will use 5M as the class. With your class selected
click the Open button.
- Your class with all of your students will appear.
- From the File menu choose Save As. When the
Save As window appears give the file a name that will be easily
identifiable. For example if you are going to use this class to
practice vocabulary with the keyboarding skills you could call
it 5M Vocabulary. Click the Save button after to have entered
the name for your class.
- Your new name will appears at the top of your
class list.
- Now that the duplicate class is created you
can create drills for it.

- Click the blue Drillfiles button at the top
of the screen. It looks like a blue folder.

- A message will appear saying "You are about
to create a collection of Lessons, Skill Builders and Tests to
be used with All the Right Type.". Click Continue.
- The Drill files window will appears. Click the
New button.
- The New Drill File window will appear requesting
that you provide a name for this this collection of Lessons, Skill
Builders and Tests. Use your keyboard to enter a name for this
recordfile. Make the name something that will help you to easily
identify it i.e., Vocabulary Drills. Then click OK.
- You can create Lessons, Skill Builders and Tests
for your Drill File.

- Click on Lesson and then click the New Drill
button at the top. It looks like a blue sheet of paper with a
"+" symbol on it.

- You will be prompted to enter a name for the
lesson. Enter a name for example "Natives". Then click the Name
button.
- Use you keyboard to enter the words, phrases
or sentences you want for the lesson. You can enter a maximum
of twenty lines in your lessons. Use the Return key to work on
the next line.
- When you are finished entering the words, phrases
or sentences for that lesson close the window.
- The lesson you just created will appear on the
list of drills. Continue adding as many Lessons as you would like.
To create a Skill Builder or Test make that selection at the top
of your drill file window and create the skill builders and tests
in the same manner as you did the lessons.
- Close the Drill file window when you are finished
creating your lessons, skill builders and tests.
- You will be prompted to save the Untitled Drillfile.
Click Yes.
- Use your keyboard to enter an name for the Drillfile.
Choose a name that will be easy for you and your students to identify
for example 5M Special.
- Now you must assign this drillfile to your duplicate
class so when your students enter All the Right Type they will
have to create your special lessons, skill builders and tests.
- The duplicate class or recordfile you created
early will probably still be open. If you accidentally close it
use the Open command from the File menu to open your duplicate
class.
- In our example we used 5M Vocabulary as the
name of our duplicate class.

- Click once on the first student on the list
to highlight the name. With the name highlighted click tie Student
Options button at the top of the screen.

- When the Student Options window appears for
the selected student click the Drillfile button under the student's
name.
- Click Change when the next message appears.
- A window will appear with all of the created
drillfiles. Click on the drillfile you created earlier once to
highlight it then click the Select button at the bottom.
- When you return tot he Student Options window
click Change at the bottom.
- The Apply Changes window will appear. Click
Apply To All so all of the students will have the drillfile you
created.
- A second message will appear warning that records
from previous drill will be lost. Since this is a duplicate class
those records are safe so click Apply To All.
- Close the Recordfile with your students and
click Yes when asked if you want to save the changes you made.
- Now you can exit the Utility Centre and you
students can begin working on the new keyboarding drills you have
created.
- You can return to the Utility Centre at any
time and edit your drills or create new ones.
