First Class Email Tips and Tricks
As we move from the Essex County Board of Education and Windsor Board of Education First Class systems to the Greater Essex County District School Board server, there are some changes that have to be made to your home setup. Courtesy of Shelley Hudson, our First Class Administrator, here's what you need to do.
GECDSB is going to have one FirstClass server. We are going to try to save everyone mailbox and personal settings however this may not be possible. To get to one server, changes are going to be made to each user's account. Please remember to:
1. Delete any old messages you no longer need.
2. Save any messages important messages as text that you can not afford to lose. Click File and Save as Text, name the file and check the directory were you are saving the file.
3. If you have personal information in your Address Book print it out because this information may be lost during the transfer and you may need to re-add your personal addresses. Open your address book for each address Click File | Print
4. Remember to change your password the first time you log in. Follow the instructions exactly: Log into FirstClass Click on Service --- Choose Change Password. Type in your old password (just leave blank if you don't have a password) PRESS TAB. Type in your new password PRESS TAB Type in your new password PRESS ENTER. Your password is now changed!
5. Remember if you had a resume you will have to create a new one Click Edit | Resume and type in the information you want displayed in your resume. Your name goes in the first field . Your Internet email address will change to firstname_lastname@GECDSB.on.ca i.e. Shelley_Hudson@GECDSB.on.ca
7. If you use FirstClass at home through your ISP (MNSI, Wincom, etc.) you must change your setup. Click Setup when you get the login screen for FirstClass on the same line as Connect via: to the far right Click Setup Click Advanced Settings on the far right the TCP Port: must be 510 Click on that number and type 510. Click Save you must change the Server Name to 199.71.141.254 Click Save you should now be able to log in through your ISP.
