The Hyperpage

This month --- cutting cookies.

Hyperstudio has a terrific feature known as cookie cutter which lets you take an impression of a pattern from one page and paste it onto another. In the process, the letters in the impression take on the attributes of the pattern. It's just like making Christmas cookies.

Step 1. Roll out the dough. Create a new card and using the fill tool, fill a screen with a pattern.. Here, I've filled the screen of Card 2 with the bricks pattern.

Step 2. Move to Card 1 and type the text that you would like to appear "cut" from the dough. Make sure that you choose a nice wide thick font for best effects. Use the lasso tool and select the text from this card and then CUT it from the EDIT menu.

Step 3. Move to Card 2 and paste the text. It will have a dotted border. From the EDIT menu, select EFFECTS and then COOKIE CUTTER. Wow! Look at what's happening. From the EDIT menu, COPY it.

Step 4. Finally, move to Card 1 and from the EDIT menu, perform a PASTE and your cookie cut text will have taken on the pattern from your rolled out dough. You're probably done with Card 2 now so go ahead and delete that card.

It's a nice effect. Use it wherever plain colours for your fonts just won't do! Why not get fancy? Try cookie cutting from a variety of different backgrounds. You'll be pleased with the results.
