Greater Essex County District School Board
Summer Computer Institutes
1998


A series of computer institutes will be offered this summer. Courses will run subject to enrollment.


The cost for employees of the Board is $50.00 per course.
For non-employees the cost is $75.00 per course.


Computer Institute Locations: 

King Edward Library, Windsor (Macintosh)  Dowswell TLCC, Essex (Windows)


1. ClarisWorks in the Classroom July 13-16  9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This course is for those who have some experience with ClarisWorks. The course will deal with classroom applications for spreadsheets, databases, sideshows, use of clip art, newsletters, etc. Teacher and student ready materials will be produced. We will also introduce the use of the scanner and digital scanner in conjunction with this program.

2. ClarisWorks for Beginners July 13-16      1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

ClarisWorks is an integrated software package licensed by the Province on both the IBM and Mac platforms. It includes word processing, database, spreadsheet, draw and paint and is one software tool that can handle many of the classroom needs. This course is meant for those who have little or no experience with ClarisWorks. It  will  be a survey of the many capabilities of the program.

3. Hyperstudio in the Classroom                    July 6-9  9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Hyperstudio is a simple multimedia authoring program which is applicable in elementary school and secondary school. It is licensed by the Province on both the IBM and MAC platforms. This course will you introduce you the many features and classroom applications of this program.

4. Hyperstudio in the Classroom                    July 6-9  9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

5. Hyperstudio in the Classroom                    August 24-27  9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This is the same course as above run in August. Hyperstudio is a simple multimedia authoring program which is applicable in elementary school and secondary school. It is licensed by the Province on both the IBM and MAC platforms. This course will you introduce you the many features and classroom applications of this program.

6. Microsoft Publisher                                  August 17-20  9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.         

Microsoft Publisher is licensed by the province on the IBM platform only. It allows the user to produce word processing documents, newsletters, cards, certificates, and much more. To enhance the use of this program, we will also introduce the use of the scanner and digital camera.

7.  Curriculum Institute July 13-16  9:00a.m. to 12 p.m.

During this institute, participants will be introduced to a wide variety of educational software packages and how they fit within the curriculum.  Many of the excellent Ministry of Education and Training licensed software packages will be introduced and the selection modified for those attending.

8.  Curriculum Institute August 10-13  9:00a.m. to 12 p.m.

During this institute, participants will be introduced to a wide variety of educational software packages and how they fit within the curriculum.  Many of the excellent Ministry of Education and Training licensed software packages will be introduced and the selection modified for those attending.
