First Class Tips and Hints

If you're using your First Class account in the fashion that it was intended, you're making great contacts with other employees of the GECDSB. Everyone who draws a paycheque is certainly entitled to have an account and is encouraged to use it to its maximum potential. As discussed last month, your First Class account is also an Internet email account.

Contacting others on the Internet is a little different. Rather than just knowing their name, you need to know their full Internet address. For example, the person might have an address of "somebody@somewhere.com". You can address a message by typing that each message, or you can use your address book. With this tip, you'll only have to enter it once and then it's yours forever.

Somehow, you need to get the person's name in the To: field. You can do it by keying or by replying to a message from that person. Now, on a Windows computer, right click and on a Macintosh hold down the CTRL key and click on the little person to the left of the email address.

A window pops up and you'll select the option "Add to Address Book".

When you do so, a New Personal Address entry opens. Not only can you track individual email addresses, but you can also enter phone numbers, alternative emails, etc.

When you close the window by clicking OK, this entry is saved in your address book.

Next time that you need to address a message to "somebody", don't fret about getting the entire email address correct. Just type their name and let First Class look it up in your address book and route it appropriately.
