The Hyperpage

Hopefully, by now, if you're a Hyperstudio using teacher you've had a chance to take a look at the high quality stacks on last year's Hyperstudio Festival CD-ROM. I can never get enough of this sort of stuff. When you see the high quality that Greater Essex County students are able to create, given the tools and the time, it's incredibly impressive.

It would be very selfish and short sighted to think that we are the only place on the planet that has a celebration of student multimedia projects. In fact, the folks at Knowledge Adventure, who are the producers of Hyperstudio have their own celebration entitled "Multimedia Mania". Details about their event are located on their website at:

Credit needs to be given to these folks for promoting and supporting achievement in the field of multimedia.

One of the key tenants that Hyperstudio has been built upon from day one is the openness of the platform and the willingness to share stacks, once created. At the Multimedia Mania site, you are afforded the opportunity to download some of the winning stacks. The stacks are extremely well done, just like many of those entered into the GECDSB Hyperstudio Festival.

Last year's winner was entitled the Z Axis. Mathematicians are immediately intrigued, but everyone really should be. In this stack, the student author has addressed the third dimension and how it can be represented on the computer using movies. When you visit the site, follow the link that describes what the project is all about to see how the student has addressed outcomes from his state's curriculum.

The result is a very interesting stack and it's certainly worth the download to check out. The link to this stack is:

Projects like this and those entered into our Hyperstudio Festival are not created overnight or on a weekend. They are the culmination of a great deal of hard work and research. I'm hoping that classrooms throughout the District are thinking about this year's Festival now as curriculum expectations are addressed through multimedia and what can be accomplished.

Use the Z Axis and last year's Festival CD-ROM as inspiration as we leap into this year's activities.
