New from OSAPAC

Ontario Software Acquisition Program Advisory Committee http://www.tvo.org/osapac/

Three new titles were licensed and delivered on CD-ROM for use in Ontario Schools.

All the Right Type
All the Right Type uses a classroom tested methodology to develop keyboarding skills. Realistic posture and finger postions demonstrate correct fingering. Printable awards, fireworks, and an optional game build motivation. Business education teachers will appreciate timed writings. Students work at thier own pace, allowing you to monitor posture and technique. The recordkeeping system frees you from marking and provides valuable feedback to students.

All The Right Type is an interactive program designed to teach keyboarding. It consists of two separate programs — All The Right Type for students and the Utility Center for Teachers. The program comes with a Drillfile (set of Lessons, Skill Builders and Tests) called ATRT Standard. It is the default Drillfile. Available on a hybrid CD-ROM, the program is an update to the previously licensed version for DOS and Macintosh.

MathTrek 4,5,6
MATH TREK 4, 5, 6 covers the standard curriculum generally taught in grades 4, 5, 6 . It follows the philosophy and standards contained in the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and OAME (Ontario Association of Mathematics Educators) standards, the grade 4, 5, and 6 curriculum expectations in the new Ontario Curriculum for mathematics; the specific and general objectives in the Common Curriculum Framework for Mathematics (Western Canadian Protocol for Collaboration in Education).

MATH TREK comes on CD-ROM with both Windows and Macintosh versions of the program.

Math Workshop
The open-ended approach of MATH WORKSHOP allows children to explore ideas and try different problem-solving approaches. Through such explorations, children construct their own mathematical understandings about fraction equivalencies, the relative sizes of common fractions, and the properties of geometric figures. The various activities available in MATH WORKSHOP not only encourage children to apply problem-solving strategies but also foster their ability to think divergently, and seek multiple solutions to a particular problem.

Program activities such as Pattern Windows and Rhythm Shop help children discover that using math goes beyond numerical operations creating music and art also involve the use of amth. Establishing these connections stimulates students' appreciation for math, and makes it relevant their lives.

The CD-ROM comes with both Windows and Macintosh versions of the program.

Web Workshop
Update News: There were problems in both the Windows and Macintosh version of this program. OSAPAC is working with the developers to get us a working version. Stay tuned.
