Teacher Essentials CD
Windows Installing FileMaker Pro 4.1v3
- Double click on My
Computer
- Place your mouse over the CD ROM
drive entitled Essential and click your RIGHT mouse
button.
- When the menu appears choose Open
by clicking the left mouse button.
- Double click on
Program
- Double click on
Filemaker
- Double click on Filemaker 4.1
Windows.
- Double click on the blue Setup
file that resembles a computer.
- Click Accept.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- You will return to the Filemaker
4.1 Windows window.
- Double click on the diamond
shaped Fmup413 file.
- Click OK.
- Click Open.
- Click Yes.
- Click OK.
- You will return to the Filemaker
4.1 Windows window.
- Close the Filemaker 4.1 Windows
window.
Windows Installing
eTeacher
- Double click on My
Computer
- Place your mouse over the CD ROM

eTeacher2 Import From Email
Step One: Download The Tab File To The
Desktop
- DO NOT ENTER eTeacher.
- Go to First Class and open the
email message with the attached tab file
- Click the right mouse button on
your tab file (lastname.tab i.e. smith.tab) in the Attachment
section of the email message (below Cc;)
- When the small menu appears
choose Save Attachment by clicking the left mouse
button.
- The next box to be displayed
requires you to indicate the location on the computer you wish to
save the tab file.
- Click on the small black triangle
at the end of the Save In: line and a menu will pop up. Select
Desktop with your mouse. N.B. Desktop will be at the top of the
list.. Release your mouse button when Desktop is
highlighted
- Click Save.
- When the downloading process of
the file is completed you will hear a popping sound and your tab
file will be successfully saved to the Desktop.
Step Two: Importing Into
eTeacher
- Start eTeacher.
- Click on the Setup button and
choose Data Files.
- Click Import.
- A message will appear 'Import
eTeacher compatible data file?'. Click OK.
- When the next message appears
click Proceed.
- The next box to be displayed is
the Open File box. Click on the small black triangle at the end of
the Look In: box and a menu will pop up. Select Desktop with your
mouse. N.B. Desktop will be at the top of the list. Release your
mouse button when Desktop is highlighted.
- Choose Tab-Separated Text in the
Files of type section at the bottom. The files located on the
Desktop will now be listed. Select the appropriate .TAB file by
clicking on it on once to highlight it. In most cases it will be
your lastname.tab. i.e. smith.tab
- Click Open and the data will be
imported in to the eTeacher.

Windows:
eTeacher2 Saving and
Emailing Your Tab File
FileMaker Pro 4.1 v3 automatically
saves your work; so each time you enter eTeacher comments and marks
are up-to-date. The Tab file containing all your comments and marks
must be kept up-to-date as well. It is a good idea to save your tab
file periodically while you work.The frequency with which you do this
is up to your discretion.
Step 1: Exporting (Saving the Tab
File)
- To save your tab file go to the
Submit Data File area of Report Section of eTeacher.
- Click the eT Format button when
you arrive at the Submit Data File area
- A box will appear with the
message confirming that this function will permit you to save a
data file. Click OK.
- The next box to be displayed
requires you to indicate the type of file, the file name and the
location on the computer you wish to save the tab
file.
- Click on the small black triangle
at the end of the Save In: line and a menu will pop up. Select
Desktop with your mouse. Release your mouse button when Desktop is
highlighted
- Select Tab (Tab-Separated Text)
in the Save of Type area by using the same technique you used for
selecting the Desktop.
- The files located on the computer
Desktop will now be listed. Select the appropriate .Tab file by
clicking on it on once. In most cases it will be your
lastname.tab. i.e., smith.tab.
- Once you have clicked on the file
to highlight it. It's name will appear in the Filename
section.
- Click Save.
- A smaller box will appear asking
you if you want to replace the existing file. Click
Replace.
If you are finished working on your
report cards click the Quit button and complete Step 2.
Step 2: Attaching The Tab File to an eMail
Message
- Exit eTeacher2 if you have not
already done so.
- Go to First Class and compose a
new email message to the school secretary.
- After completing the message go
the the File menu and choose Attach File.
- The next box to be displayed
requires you to indicate the file you wish to attach and its
location.
- Click on the small black triangle
at the end of the Look In: box and a menu will pop up. Select
Desktop with your mouse. N.B. Desktop will be at the top of the
list. Release your mouse button when Desktop is highlighted.
- The files located on the Desktop
will now be listed. Select the appropriate .TAB file by clicking
on it on once to highlight it. In most cases it will be your
lastname.tab. i.e. smith.tab
- Click Open and the file will
begin attaching the file to your email message. When this process
is completed you will hear a popping sound.
- Send the message.

- Insert the Teacher Essentials
CD
- When the Essentials CD appears on
your computer Desktop double click on it.
- Double click on
Program.
- Double click on
Filemaker.
- Double click on FilemakerPro
4.1.
- Double click on the diamond
shaped file called Start Here.
- Click Accept.
- Click Install.
- Click Quit.
- You will return to the
FilemakerPro 4.1 window.
- Double click on the blue
Filemaker Pro 4.1v3 Updater folder.
- Double click on the diamond
shaped Filemaker Pro 4.1v3 Updater file.
- Click Continue.
- Click Update.
- Click OK.
- Click Quit.
- Close the Filemaker 4.1 Windows
window.
- Close the Filemaker, FilemakerPro
4.1, and Pro 4.1v3 Updater folder.
Macintosh Installing
eTeacher
- Double click on the Essentials
CD
- Double click on Program.
- Double click on the eTeacher
folder.
- Double click on the blue diamond
shaped file etelem21.
- Click Continue.
- Click Accept.
- Click Continue.
- Click Install.
- Click OK.
- Click Quit.
- Close the windows you opened in
steps 1-3.
- You can now access the eTeacher
program by double clicking on the eTeache.fp3 file in the eteacher
2, Grades 1 to 8 folder on your Macintosh HD.

Macintosh:
eTeacher2 Import From Email

- Select Tab-Separated Text at the
bottom in the Show area.
- Your file along with other files
and folders located on the Desktop will now be listed.
- Select the appropriate file by
clicking on it on once. In most cases it will be your
lastname.txt. i.e., smith.txt.
- Click Open and the data will be
imported into eTeacher. You will arrive at the Preferences area of
the Setup section where all of the Board Information, School
Information, Teacher Information, etc,. can be found.
