First Class Tips and Tricks

Downloading and Uploading

With all of the functionality of First Class, one of the most basic functions has always been the transfer of files from you to someone else or from that someone else to you. More often than not, people download attachments by simply double clicking on the attachment(s). The problem in doing this is two fold:

  1. Where did that file go? Unless you realize that the file has been transferred to the Download folder inside your First Class Client folder which is on your hard drive somewhere, it has for all intents and purposes gotten itself lost.
  2. If the file was an executable file containing a virus, you've just infected your computer. Gulp.

What's a person to do? It's not that difficult. Just control "how" First Class does the download procedure and take back control over things.

I highly recommend that you first transfer your file to your computer's desktop. That way, it's up front for you to do with it what you will. (And the first thing if it's executable had better be to check for viruses!)

The easiest way to do this is to arrange your message window so that you can see both the attachment and part of your computer desktop.

To download the message, just move your cursor over the document icon next to the attachment and drag it to the part of your desktop that you can see and let go of the mouse button. First Class takes take of the rest. The file will be downloaded and dropped onto your desktop. Task done, you exit First Class to return to your desktop and do with the file what you wish.

Need to upload a file. It's the same thing in reverse. Start your message and address it to the recipient. Move the window so that you can see the message and your desktop containing the file to be uploaded. Drag the file to the top portion of your message and let go of the mouse button. First Class takes over and the file is tranferred.
