TROI Plug-ins

Experience at Sea Update

About TROI Plug-ins

I know a few people who think that Filemaker Pro can sing and dance and make your computer do darn near everything.

Apparently, everything isn't totally inclusive.

The Curriculum Unit Planner uses a number of TROI plug-ins to perform some functions that either aren't done or aren't easily done with Filemaker Pro itself. Ditto for the Ontario Electronic Report Card, Homerep, and eTeacher. During the installation of any of the above programs, the plug-ins are installed into the Filemaker Pro System directory under Windows and the Filemaker Pro Plug-in folder on a Macintosh computer.

If life was only that easy.

Early version of the programs all used Version 1 plug-ins. The new Curriculum Unit Planner uses Version 2 plug-ins. Provided you do things in the right order, this shouldn't make a difference to you.

If you are using eTeacher and/or Homerep, it must be installed first. The Curriculum Unit Planner, when installed second will over write the version 1 plug-ins with its version 2 plug-ins and all of the programs can happily co-exist. Do it backwards and the complaining about wrong versions begins!

If you wonder exactly what they do, you might head off to http://www.troi.com for a little bit of professional reading!

Update on the Experience at Sea

From the Experience at Sea site featured last month, comes the following email. It's still not too late to have your class involved.

www.experienceatsea.org

The schooner Lettie G. Howard is currently at sea with a full complement of crew and apprentice seamen!

The site was updated with pictures of the graduation from Hurricane Island Outward Bound and crew heading on board.

After two days of onboard drill she put to sea on October 3.

We have also added details of the science project being carried out on board and will post results on a regular basis as they become available.

Thank you for your continued interest in this project.
