The Multimedia Page

Over the summer, the long awaited Hyperstudio upgrade materialized. While the appearance hasn't changed much, the functionality (particularly the Macintosh version) is reportedly better. Time will tell but we're hoping for great things.

So, when I get a new piece of software, I typically click on the menus to see what's new. So, here we go.. File -> New Stack, Edit -> New Card, Object -> Add a Button, Extras -> Hello? EarthPlot? This is new!

If you're doing anything with Social Studies or Geographies, this is the tool to include content in your students' stacks.

When you choose EarthPlot, you're asked to enter various pieces of geographic information. I decided to zero in on Durazno, Uruguay. Latitude is 33 degrees North and Longitude is 56 degrees South. To fill up the card, I asked Hyperstudio to display the results with an Earth Width of 400 pixels.

Click on OK and look at the results!

Your coordinates appear centred on the screen! What an exciting concept. You don't have to accept the default of the globe being centred on the card. If you look carefully, you'll see that you are dropped on the card with the lasso tool. So, your image hasn't been fixed yet. Move it around on the screen and finally put it into place.

This is a really new exciting concept. No longer do you have to pick a map of a continent and indicate that the country in question is the second pink one from the left. Use the EarthPlot utility and zero right in on your geographical coordinates!
