Ontario Report Card, Grades 1-8

For elementary schools in the Greater Essex County District School Board, this fall's major focus has been gearing up for the implementation of the new Ontario Report Card, Grades 1-8. Even before we received the CD-ROMs with the Report Card, plans were underway to get an understanding of just how to effectively report assessment of Ontario Curriculum Expectations.

Then came the Electronic Version. The CD-ROMs were received mid-October and the process of getting people up to speed begins!

  1. Report Card Administrators (School Secretaries) were given an inservice session outlining the whole process of setting up a school for use with the new Report Card.
  2. 10 sessions were arranged for teacher inservice with the Teacher Takeaway component.
  3. CAITs have had their primary function focused on the successful support for teachers using the new Report Card.
  4. CIESC people in the school have been instrumental in helping with the setup and "debugging" of the various setups at school and at home.
  5. In and among their regular duties, the SSTs, Technicians, and Support People have provided direction and installation support for Filemaker Pro 4, the Electronic Report Card, the exportation and importation of student records from the school management systems, and the setup of the Electronic Report Card on school networks.

It's a big task and every one has an important part to play in the success of this project. Thanks to everyone for their continuing patience and efforts.

Support for the use of the Report card may still necessary and you can look for it in the following places.

  1. Each other. As with most things, experts will rise in the staff room and provide the type of immediate support that is often necessary and most appreciated. Got your Report Cards to work, share your experiences!
  2. Your CAIT is there on a regular basis. Use them! They know this Report Card inside and out.
  3. On the First Class system, check out the public conference "Report Cards". Inside you'll find support for the assessment issues, help with Rubrics, and a folder devoted to the Electronic Report Card. In addition, Report Card Administrators are all enrolled in a private conference devoted to the administration of the Electronic Report Card.
  4. ENOREO - On this system, there is a conference devoted solely to the discussion of the Ontario Report Card, Grades 1-8. Here, you'll get a perspective from all over the province.
  5. Media-X Web Site is at http://www.media-x.com where you'll find an online FAQ of issues and answers direct from the developers themselves. If the answer isn't there, you do have the option to enter your own question. Note that access is password protected and the login and password were distributed at the inservice workshops.
