Communication of student achievement is an ongoing process which involves both formal and informal methods. The communication process includes ongoing dialogue with both students and parents about student progress and achievement.

Formal communication includes:

  • report cards issued three times per year
    (December, March and June)
  • report card response form (page 3)
  • parent/teacher interviews (December and April)
  • student-led conferences

Informal Communication includes:

  • notes
  • student agenda
  • telephone calls
  • work contracts

Formal Communication - The Report Card

The report card is no place for surprises. Parents should be informed on the assessment practices in your class/school at curriculum nights, open houses, and through newsletters. Be sure to provide concrete evidence to support statements made in the report card during parent-teacher interviews.
