The Internet - For learners to not abuse their entitlement of exploring the Internet, Acceptable Use Policies need to be reinforced. It is important to discuss these policies with your students and have them sign the policy where they agree not to abuse or take advantage of the Internet. If a student is exposed to an unacceptable site, they should be aware of how to handle the situation. I tell my students to minimize the window, call me over and above all, they are made aware that they are not to share the site with others around them. It is imperative that teachers supervise the Internet at all times to ensure that learners are safe and on-task. If a teacher allows students to utilize the Internet during unsupervised breaks, it can lead to problems. If a teacher or adult is not available to monitor the use of the Internet, then it is wise to disallow students from using this resource. The Internet is a great library of facts, data and resources that can enhance a student's knowledge, but if used inappropriately and without cause, it can be harmful and unsafe. The Internet is a wonderful tool, not to be misused or mishandled. |
