It is also important that students distinguish between true information and that which is better left to the tabloids. Educating students on the difference between primary and secondary sources are one way of combating this.

The Internet is a wonderful tool for both students and teachers. There is an unlimited amount of information available that can be easily accessed.

The number one challenge that I face when using the Internet in the classroom is that students spend too much time searching for useful information instead of putting the information that they have into the project they are working on. Teaching students proper techniques and methods of refining their searches will always save time and headaches for both the student and the teacher.

A second challenge is typing errors within the web addresses by students. This can be particularly dangerous at times! What I like to do at the beginning of the year is find appropriate sites that have the required information for their projects and place those links in their class folders so they can be easily accessed. I also use the Student Reference Portal's 'Searching' page. I prefer to keep the students using the 'Classroom Friendly Search Engines'.
