The Student Reference Portal and Your Students

The Internet is a wonderful resource for students, but it can be as confusing as it is beneficial. For an inexperienced student, the Internet can seem like a tangled mass of websites. Often after typing in a keyword or using a search engine, a student will find hundreds of responses that have nothing to do with his or her topic. That is why I would recommend that for all students new to the Internet to only use the links that can be found on the G.E.C.D.S.B. Student Reference Portal. Topics for subjects like Mathematics, Science and Social Studies can all be accessed from links found on the Student Reference Portal. In fact, the links for the subjects are broken down into the different strands for the students. Therefore, students are able to quickly find information that relate specifically to what they need from websites that have been approved by the Board.
Another bonus by using the links found on the Student Reference Portal is that students will not have to worry about typing in long web addresses. They can just click to whichever site they would like to visit and be transported there.

For example, if a student in Grade 4 is doing a research project on Medieval Times they are just three clicks away from a number of approved websites. This certainly helps because most sites are often case-sensitive and younger students have a difficult time typing in web addresses which sometimes can be very lengthy. Hopefully, you will find that by having inexperienced students use the links found on the Student Reference Portal their time on the Internet will be used more efficiently. Happy surfing!
