Matter and Materials: Grade 2 - Properties of Liquids and Solids

Overall Expectations (O.E. column below)

  1. demonstrate an understanding of the properties of familiar liquids (e.g., vinegar, detergent, water, oil) and solids (e.g., sugar, salt, sand), and of interaction between liquids and between liquids and solids;
  2. investigate the properties of and interactions between liquids and between liquids and solids, and identify the types of objects or materials that can be used to contain liquids and solids (e.g., a plastic bowl will hold a liquid or a solid but a paper towel will only hold a dry solid);
  3. identify and describe ways in which we use our knowledge of liquids and solids in making useful objects and in living in our environment.
