GEC Computers in Elementary Schools

While the Ontario Curriculum offers numerous opportunities for the use of computer and information technology in the curriculum, it is left to the individual teacher to determine where and how it fits.

To assist in this process and to give a uniform implementation of computer skills, a group of educators was created to identify a continuum of skills for Grades 1 through 8. The group identified five strands of computer use.

• Computer Operation
• Curriculum Support
• Multimedia
• Research/Information Literacy
• Writing/Publishing

Each division also features a number of scenarios as to how the technology can become an integral part of any of the areas of the Ontario Curriculum.

The results of their efforts are included in the attached PDF document. A copy is also available on the Teachers' Essentials CD-ROM.
