A
"No Bullying Proposal" Webquest
Junior,
Intermediate
Social Studies
|
Everyone
has the right to feel safe coming to school. Unfortunately, that
isn't always the case. In this webquest, you are going to work
in groups and make a proposal to do something about it! Your school
is a great place to learn, play and to have friends. Nobody likes
to be bullied.
Your
group's job is to create a presentation which describes the topic
of bullying, identifies the roles of different people, and makes
a recommendation about what your school should do to make it a
safer place. In researching this topic, you'll find that any "bullying
situation" has a person being bullied, a person doing the bullying,
people that watch and do nothing, and finally people that watch
and do something about it.

OK,
so you can't live at home forever. One day, you will leave home
to take your own job or go to college or university. To quote
Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind, "where shall I go, what
shall I do?" The purpose of this webquest is to help you investigate
some answers to these questions.
Vous

À un moment donné, vous quitterez le foyer maternel

film Autant en emporte le vent, "Où irai-je? Que ferai-je?"
Le but de cette quête est de découvrir des réponses

As
project leader for the development of the new accounting system
in your company, you have a big task ahead of you. Partnered to
work with you are some of the best programmers in the company.
Individually, they've written some really useful code.
However,
they've never had to work together or share code with others.
The accounting system is going to require a great deal of sharing
of routines and logic. It's also going to require some interactive
debugging as the project takes shape. Unfortunately, your company
has never adopted any programming standards. While each of these
programmers turns out terrific final product, they all have their
own individual preferences and techniques.
Your
job as project leader is to get all of these programmers on the
same wavelength. In order to do this, you will have to do some
background research about programming standards and summarize
it in a form that will be usable by your team members.

What Happened to the Hindenburg?
Intermediate

The
time is 2037, and you have found a journal hidden away in the
attic of your house. It belonged to your grandfather
and details his journey on the Hindenburg's maiden voyage in 1937
- one hundred years ago. On reading the entries, you realize that
your grandfather was a secret agent working for a classified military
operation for the US and Canadian governments. Informants had sent
information through their contacts that there was a plot to destroy
the Hindenburg on US soil and blame the US for it. Your grandfather
was trying to discover how this was going to occur, and prevent
it from happening. His last entry was "I think I know how
the Hindenburg will be destroyed! I must inform my superiors!" Unfortunately,
that was the last entry in his journal. |

You're A Poet And You Didn't Even Know It!
Junior, Intermediate

Poetry, as a writing tool, has stood the test of
time. From the beginning of time, or at least since Guttenberg
invented the printing press, poetry has become one of the most
popular styles of writing. It has helped men get women , inspired
great speech writers, started wars, and brought about peace. Poetry
is the basis for such writing tools as metaphors, similes, alliteration
and personification.
As an aspiring poet, you and your partner will analyze poetry,
identify and summarize the use of literary devices, create, edit
and publish poetry of various styles. Don't panic! Just follow
the steps and you may be the next Edgar Allen Poe.
