Using technology to engage students as they explore
core curriculum
The
Media Arts Project (MAP) encourages young minds to explore
their artistic potential by using digital technology to learn
the core curriculum. As the next generation develops their
relationship with technology, educators have an opportunity
to help shape the nature of that relationship using technology
and media as tools for learning, engagement and expression.
The MAP unit will begin with a media artist leading a technical workshop for
teachers. The media artist-educator will then visit the classroom four times
to work in partnership with the teacher to deliver a nine-session lesson plan
that uses the computer and digital tools to explore the curriculum.
LTTA Media Arts Projects (MAP)
MAP
uses a school’s existing technology for more than
just basic calculation and word processing. Teachers and
media artists partner to help the students explore the
curriculum and create beautiful and thought provoking works
that inform us about the world and our place in it. The
skills gained by students enhance their ability to access
and evaluate information, and provide tools and ways of
thinking that will be necessary for future education and
employment.
Through technical training session and in-class work with
the artist, teachers receive valuable professional development
in using technology in the classroom.
“Through working with the MAP program, I learned more
than I could have imagined about how to use computer technology
to address curriculum expectations. I now have a knowledge
base to work from and will be able to apply it to our new
unit of study in Language Arts.”Grade 5/6 teacher,
