IPRC
PLACEMENT
The Greater Essex County District School Board
makes every attempt to support our special education students
in their home school. We offer a wide range of special
education programs for both elementary and secondary schools
to address the needs of our students. Most students will
be encouraged to succeed in the regular classroom with their
classroom teacher providing additional support through accommodations
and modifications. The placement of a student in a regular
class setting is the first option, in the range of programs
and services provided, that is considered by the Identification,
Placement and Review Committee (I.P.R.C.) and shared with
parents.
Program Supports
Community schools are supported by a team of professionals
including special education teachers and special education
support personnel. These people can provide indirect, in-class
or withdrawal support for students in need. Placements in
more intensive support programs, or Special Education Resource
Rooms, are given to students based on a recommendation of
the IPRC committee. Centralized Programs providing more intensive
support, or full time classes, are located within several
schools in the city and county. Annual meetings may be held
for identified students where placement options are
considered.
