Outstanding Service Award Oct 2009
Mrs. Colovic

Mrs. Colovic is a shining
example of what a teacher should
strive to be in her career. She teaches as much by example as
she does with curriculum, demonstrating to her students the
qualities of responsibility, empathy, respect and commitment.
Janey teaches Early Literacy and French to all grades from
Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 at W.G. Davis Public School.
Despite that diverse student demographic, all of them,
regardless of their age, look forward to their time in Mrs.
Colovic’s class because she makes learning fun and exciting.
Her bulletin boards are always full of her student’s latest
projects. They are a place of honour and recognition for
student achievement and, because of the transitory nature of
her classes, the bulletin boards constantly require changing
and updating. For this task, she has a large group of student
assistants who use their own time to help, which only
punctuates the esteem with which she is held.
It also doesn’t hurt that her classroom is quite the pad…lily
pad, that is. Mrs. Colovic is very affectionately known as “the
frog lady” for her vast collection of frogs which share her
space.
She is a leader in the school community. Her volunteer
activities include organizing the annual Oral Communications
Competition, coordinating the Carnaval Week events and Play
Day for Primary students. Janey has also established a school
bookroom and manages its resources, and she is the contact
for the Raise-a-Reader community program and coordinator of
the school’s Family Literacy Night. Away from school she is a
devoted wife and mother along with being the co-chair of the
Wonderbroads Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.
She is an inspiration to her students and fellow staff members
with an unsurpassed level of compassion and enthusiasm.
Simply put, outstanding!
