School Policies
Dress Code
The school is a learning
environment. Students at Wm. G. Davis are expected to dress appropriately
for health, safety and the orderly conduct of classroom learning.
PRIMARY STUDENTS – JK/SK
TO GRADE 3
We realize and appreciate
that parents of primary students are involved with the selection of their
children clothing for school. We know that parents will ensure that their
children are dressed appropriately for school. Please note for safety reasons
students are encouraged to wear closed shoes (ex. Running shoes) during recess.
Sandals and open foot wear of this nature are not allowed when children are
playing at Dolphin Park. Heelies are prohibited at Davis Public School for
all students.
JUNIOR & INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS
(GR.4-8)
Students are expected to
follow our School’s Dress Code, which has been discussed and agreed upon with
the members of the School Advisory Council.
- All students are to wear age appropriate clothing.
- Very short or tight skirts, skorts and/or skooters
are not appropriate.
- Shorts, skirts and dresses must be an adequate length.
(The rule of thumb will be as follows: The hem line must be slightly above
the knee).
- Slacks or pants cannot be sitting any lower than
the hip. The very low sitting pants make it unsafe for students walking
and using the stairs for example.
- Spandex/mesh clothing and pajama (P.J.) bottoms
are not appropriate dress for any student.
- Students should not wear revealing or see through
tops. Underwear and under garments are not to be visible.
- Tank tops with spaghetti straps, low cut fronts
and tight fitting tops are not to be worn at school. Necklines and sleeveless
clothing should be conservative.
- Tops must be long enough so that when a student
stretches his/her arms, the midriff area is not showing.
- Language on any article of clothing cannot be offensive
in any way. Slogans and/or pictures promoting an unhealthy lifestyle are
prohibited for all students and visitors alike.
- Hats and/or head covering of any style or type are
not allowed in the school. Exceptions are made for head covering associated
with a religion or custom.
- All students are encouraged to wear closed shoes
(ex: running shoes) during recess. Students wearing open footwear (ex: flip
flops) will be discouraged playing in active sports activities during recesses
for safety reasons.
- Heelies are prohibited at Davis.
- Students should wear sunscreen and hats on sunny
days.
- Metal studded jewellery or bracelets are not permitted.
