Course Selection Procedures
During the month of February, students will be selecting their courses for the next school year. The school master timetable and staffing will be constructed on the basis of options chosen, so it is important that proper choices be made.
- Changes in course selections will be permitted only after consultation with the student’s counsellor and with parental approval.
- After the June report, the student is required to notify the school to request any changes necessitated by failures, especially if no summer school makeup is intended.
- Students who attend summer school and who successfully complete their course work will be permitted to modify their requests. The student has the responsibility to contact the school during the last week preceeding the opening of school in September to request any course changes.

Need Help Selecting Courses?
Counselling services are available to both students and parents. Guidance Counsellors are professionals who are trained in assisting students and parents with the selection of courses and the careers to which the courses lead.

Additional Learning Options:
Co-op
The Leamington District Secondary School Co-op Program provides an opportunity to earn out-of-school credits. The credits earned are directly related to an in-school course. Students must have completed or be currently taking the in-school course and be entering Grade 11 or 12.
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
The Greater Essex County District School Board offers apprenticeship programs that allow students to pursue careers in the following skilled trades: Precision Metal Trades, Auto Service Technician, Baker, Hairstylist and Cook, the last of which is available at LDSS.
Specialist High Skills Major Program
The Specialist High Skills Major program allows students to focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests. Each major is a bundle of 8-10 courses in the student's selected field and is designed for students who are heading toward an apprenticeship, college, university or into the workplace. Students have the opportunity to gain important skills on-the-job, at training centres and at school while earning valuable industry certifications, including first aid and CPR qualifications.
eLearning
On-line courses are designed for students who are self-motivated and who work well independently. Due to the fact that learning is self-directed, students may find this mode of learning much more demanding than classroom learning. However, it also provides the opportunity to explore courses which may not be available in the local school. If you are interested in discussing this learning opportunity, please see a Guidance Counsellor for details.
