......Our "Reading Explosion" Family Literacy Night was a HUGE SUCCESS!..

On Thurs. Jan. 21, LaSalle PS hosted our first "Reading Explosion" -- a very fun family event celebrating science, literacy and learning. We had a huge crowd -- over 150 people -- who came out with their children to hear how they could help the primary and early years learners in their home.
Guests met in the gym first, for an exciting, free Mad Science presentation with The Brain. Then families took their "data logs" and rotated through five different labs, where they experienced great high-yield strategies to improve literacy and learning. People "bumped it up," "thought aloud," checked out literacy links, investigated "Just Right" books, and unlocked the mysteries of "decoding."
The evening finished with a reminder from Mrs. Breshgold about why making our children strong literacy leaders was so important. Then we handed out some fabulous science-related door prizes (books and gift certificates) to conclude the exciting event.
It was exciting to watch children and parents engage in such meaningful -- and fun -- activities. It is our hope that parents continue to use these important strategies when working on literacy and numeracy with their children!
If you were unable to attend the "Reading Explosion," but would like to learn more about these great literacy opportunities, please email or call the school. We are happy to share the learning and celebrating with one and all!
