Mission
Statement and Values
LaSalle
Public School, in partnership with the community, will
develop and maintain a safe environment that fosters
cooperation, empathy, positive self-esteem, and respect for
self, society, and property. We will inspire growth in
academics, the arts and physical fitness by supporting,
challenging, and motivating all students to achieve their
full potential.
LaSalle
Public School values:
- the
well-being of learners, above all other interests
- the
support and contribution of parents, and encourages their involvement
in school life, to promote and enhance student success
- a
safe, stimulating, welcoming and nurturing educational environment,
which accomodates individual student learning styles and needs
- dedicated,
skilled and caring educators who make a significant positive difference
in the lives of students
- family
and community interaction with the school
- open,
honest and interactive communication, which builds trust,
commitment and our school's success
Planners
We
have ordered school planners for Grades 2 to 8. These are
designed to move students progressively along the continuum
towards independence. Planners are tools designed to teach
and practise basic planning skills in a consistent and
structured way. The cost of planners has been subsidized by
our School Council, and students are asked to bring $4.00 to
purchase their personal planner for home/school
use.

ATTENDANCE
Good
attendance is important for successful learning. If
your child must be absent because of illness, please call
the school before 8:30 a.m. Voice mail is available
24 hours a day, for your convenience. Please send a note to
your child's teacher upon return, giving the reason for the
absence. When students are late, they must
report to the office for an admittance slip before going to
class. This allows us to correct attendance records
and avoids unnecessary calls to parents.
After
4 p.m., students who need to come back into the school for
forgotten items must be accompanied by an
adult.
If
your child must leave during school hours, please follow
these safety procedures:
- Send
a note, signed by the parent.
- Report
directly to the office to pick up your child.
- Notify
us by telephone, in an emergency, if someone other than
the parent is to pick up your child.
- If
your child is bused, call Laidlaw Buses,
969?0184.
ACCURATE
RECORDS
It
is very important that we have up-to-date phone numbers,
addresses, and emergency contacts. Please inform the teacher
or office staff regarding changes.
SAFE
ARRIVAL POLICY
LaSalle
Public School follows the board policy, which requires us to
call your home or workplace if your child is absent without
previous notification. Phoning is a safety precaution that
takes our office staff a lot of time. Please fill in
the Safe Arrival form. Send a note in advance, or call us on
the morning of any absence.
BUSING
Busing
is provided by Laidlaw, phone #
969-0184.
At
the bus stop, for safety reasons, JK/SK students must have
an adult wait with them for pick?up, and wait for them at
drop?off. All students are to wait quietly and responsibly
at the bus stop.
Transportation
is a privilege, and for safety reasons, no
misbehaviour will be tolerated on the buses. Parents will be
notified of persistent problems, and pupils may have bus
privileges suspended.
Transportation
requires that there be only one regular stop for pick-up and
drop?off.
In
inclement weather, buses may not be running, or schools may
be closed. Listen to radio stations CKLW AM 800, CKLW FM
93.9, CKWW AM 580, CBE AM 1550, CHYR FM 96.7, and CIMX FM
88.7, CBEF AM 540, or CFCO AM 630, for a Board announcement.
Parents decide whether to send their child to school.
Parents must fill in the emergency form and make
arrangements for where their child is to go if the school
should close early. Discuss these plans with your
child as a precaution, please.
Bus
Rules:
It is expected that students will respect the rights and
safety of other students, the bus driver, and neighbours at
the bus stop. Safety is our utmost concern. Bus
evacuation drills are conducted each year, and there are
student monitors on all buses.
- Be
at your bus stop before the bus arrives. Wait quietly in
a safe place, away from traffic and the bus.
- Board
the bus in single file and do not push.
- Remain
seated at all times.
- Do
not eat or drink on the bus. Gum is not
allowed.
- Do
not throw objects, either on or off the bus.
- Keep
your head, hands and objects inside the bus.
- Do
not litter, write on, or damage the bus.
- Do
not bring harmful objects on the bus.
- Do
not swear, be loud, tease, or use rude gestures, either
on the bus or at the bus stop.
- Follow
monitors' and driver's directions promptly.

SCHOOL
EVACUATION PLAN
If
necessary to evacuate the building for any reason,
accommodation would be provided by busing students to
Sandwich Secondary School. Parents would be advised, by
radio, that bused children will be transported home at the
regular time, and that children who usually walk could be
picked up at the alternate location.
SCHOOL
SAFETY
Fire
Drill Procedures
- Staff
shall review exit procedures with students, and fire exit
signs shall be posted by the doors of rooms.
- At
the alarm, occupants shall quickly and quietly exit the
school, following posted escape routes.
- Students
shall leave books and coats in the school.
- Teachers
shall take a class list or attendance book.
- Everyone
shall move away from the school, clearing the area around
the building for fire trucks.
- Only
when the "All Clear" signal is voiced, may occupants file
quietly back into the school.
- In
the event of a serious emergency, the principal or
designate, after consultation with the chief fire
official, shall initiate the School Evacuation
Plan.
Tornado
Drill Procedures
When
the signal "Severe Weather Warning" is
voiced:
- Staff
shall lead their students to the designated protected
area of the school.
- Students
shall sit on the floor quietly along the wall until the
signal "Take Cover" is voiced.
- Students
and staff will kneel, head to wall, hands clasped over
the head. They stay in this position until the "All
Clear" signal is voiced.
- Only
when the signal "Students may return to their rooms" is
voiced, may everyone move quietly back to their
classrooms.
Accidents
Accidents should be reported to the teacher and to the
office as soon as possible. Action is taken according to the
severity of the injury. Most instances require minor
first-aid. Parents are contacted if necessary. Voluntary
accident insurance information is sent out in September.
It is recommended. If you would like your
kindergarten child to wear a helmet for tricycle?riding,
please send one to school. During gym activities, students
must wear non?marking rubber-soled shoes. Necklaces, scarves
or drawstrings should not be worn during gym or climber
play. Staff, parents, and students are to report
hazards in/around the school to the office.
Safe
Schools Regulations
Pupils
are subject to the expectations and consequences of
Ontario Schools: Code of Conduct, the Safe Schools
Regulation of the Greater Essex County District School
Board, and LaSalle PS's Code of Conduct.
Mandatory Suspensions will be given for uttering
a threat to inflict serious bodily harm, possessing illegal
drugs/alcohol, swearing at staff, committing vandalism that
causes extensive property damage, possessing/distributing
inappropriate material, committing fire?related offences, or
being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
Discretionary Suspensions may be given for
persistent truancy or opposition to authority, habitually
neglecting his/her duties as a pupil, willfully destroying
school property, using improper or profane language, acting
in a way that is injurious to the moral tone of the school,
acting to cause significant physical or emotional harm to
others (bullying), or possessing tobacco products or drug
paraphanalia,
Suspensions range from 1 to 20 full days. Principals may
suggest or require counselling or other programs in letters
of suspension.

Visitor
Entry
Parents
and visitors are always welcome in our school. We ask that
everyone, including parents, volunteers and contractors,
report to the office upon entering the school.
All are to sign in and wear a pass. After 4 p.m. students
who are coming back into the school for forgotten items must
be accompanied by an adult.
Parents,
please take a few moments to review these rules with your
child, as we have with the entire student body. Your
child's safety is important to us!
Skateboards,
Scooters and Rollerblades
We
prefer that students not wear rollerblades or use
skateboards on their way to school. However, if they do use
them, it is imperative that they obey the
rules:
- As
you come to school, remember road safety. Vehicles must
not have to swerve around you, as that is a danger both
to the driver and you.
- You
must bring shoes with you. You may not rollerblade into
the school to get shoes.
- As
you arrive on school property, remove your rollerblades
and put on your shoes. Do not use a skateboard or
rollerblades on school property.
- Put
your rollerblades in a bag until the bell rings. If you
have a scooter or skateboard, carry it. Do not enter the
school to put these items in your locker.
- Remember
not to cross through our parking lot or or bus areas, as
cars and buses are constantly moving.
Bicycles
Bicycles must be parked in designated areas and locked. To
ensure the safety of all students, bikes are to be walked on
school property. The school is not responsible for stolen or
damaged bicycles.
Parking
and Walking Safety
Since
buses arrive at the front of the school at 8:00 a.m. and
2:50 p.m. daily, we request that you park on Mayfair Avenue.
Please do not park in the bus loading zone in front of
the school, and do not allow your child to walk through the
parking lot. We ask that all students stay on the
sidewalks, cross with the guards and safety patrols, and
stay out of the parking lot.
Kiss
and Ride
This
service is provided by parent volunteers to allow parents to
drop off students. JK/SK children will be walked directly to
their teachers by students in Junior grades. This is
convenient for parents and prevents lengthy traffic
tie?ups. Please do not pass other cars in the K &
R line. It is unsafe to do so. Only Sundowners
parents may park at the curb from 8:15 to 8:30 a.m. Please
be understanding about these safety precautions. Be
courteous to our K & R volunteers. Give a smile, a "Good
morning!" and a "Thank you!"
Please
help keep our students safe!

COMMUNICATION
Newsletters
The
school produces a monthly newsletter for parents. It
includes upcoming events, achievements and student reports.
Please look for this newsletter about the first of each
month. Also look for our web site address. We want to keep
parents informed of school activities.
Student
Assistance Program
The
Student Assistance Program is available for all students. If
a child, teacher or parent is experiencing concern over
academic, health, attendance, or behaviour issues, please
let us know. Talk to any SAP team member. We are here to
help.
Student
Records
Parents
may examine the Ontario School Record (O.S.R.) folder on
request, by appointment, with the teacher, principal or
designate.
Special
Education Assistance
Learning
support is provided for students who are experiencing
difficulty with the regular program. The learning support
teacher (LST) may work with children individually or in
small groups in the LST room.
A school conference committee is held to determine the
extent of support required. Parents and teachers are
included in the committee.
Enrichment for advanced students is provided within the
classroom as the teacher gives them opportunities to pursue
more in-depth studies. These students especially benefit
from involvement in clubs or after-school activities which
extend their experiences.
Homework
Club
This
club offers a limited number of students a chance to
complete work that has not been done during the day. With
parental consent, a student may work with a teacher up until
4 p.m. up to four afternoons a week.

AWARDS
AND ASSEMBLIES
Assemblies
Parents,
relatives and friends are welcome to attend any of our
assemblies. Just watch for announcements in our
newsletters.
LaSalle
Public School Award
Each
year, Grades 4 - 8 students can earn points toward this
award. Points are given for academic achievement, sports,
clubs, volunteer work, and committees. It can take four
years to gain enough points to earn the LPS award, and
students are encouraged to set goals, to contribute to
LaSalle School Spirit, and to seek a well-rounded program
that reflects their interests and commitment. (Students who
arrive after Grade 4 will earn a prorated number of points.)

HEALTH
Health
Unit
Windsor-Essex
County Health Unit provides a number of services to school
children in our board, many according to provincial law. If,
for any reason, you do not wish your child to be involved in
health education or dental services, please inform
the school, in writing, early in the year.
Illness
Please
do not send a child to school if he/she appears ill, or has
been ill through the previous night. This includes
symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or a bad cough.
Your child needs to be well enough to participate in class,
and other students should not be exposed to a contagious
child. If a student becomes ill at school, a parent or
emergency contact person will be notified to take the child
home. It is critical that work and emergency phone
numbers be current.
Medication
School
staff are not authorized to dispense any medication to
students without written authorization, on an
official form, from the physician and the parent. Forms are
available at the school office. Food/bee sting allergies are
of special concern. Please contact the office regarding
these.

LUNCH
RULES
Students
who stay at school are expected to be well-behaved,
courteous, and responsible at all times.
Students have 20 minutes (11:30-11:50) to eat lunch.
Classroom rules include:
- Use
washrooms and wash hands.
- Sit
in their assigned area to eat.
- Talk
quietly and remain seated.
- Ask
for permission to leave the classroom.
- Tidy
up and dispose of garbage at the end of
lunch.
- Obey
the lunch monitors and noon aides.
From
11:50 to 12:15, students play outside or take part in inside
activities. Adult supervision is provided.
Students
who go home for lunch each day need one note that will
suffice for that child for the school year. This note is to
be given to the homeroom teacher in September. Children will
not be allowed to use the office phone to get oral
permission to leave at lunch.
Children who occasionally go home must present a
dated, signed note to the homeroom teacher for each
occurrence, before 9 a.m. This note will be signed by the
teacher. Students then must sign in and out of the
attendance book at the office. Leaving is a privilege
which can be revoked if this procedure is not followed.
Students are not allowed off school grounds at lunch
unless they are expected home for lunch.

HOMEWORK
POLICY
LaSalle
Public School supports the concept of homework for students
in accordance with the board regulations.
Homework
may include:
- practice
and reinforcement of skills which have been
taught
- preparation
for upcoming classroom activities
- application
of learned skills to new areas
Guidelines
for the amount of homework
JK
& SK: parents read to and converse with the child
Grades 1-2: informal reading and math games
Grades 3-6: 20-30 minutes per day on various activities such
as reading or math. Additional time may be required for
tests or projects.
Grades 6-8: 30-60 minutes per day on various types of work.
Reading, math and computer use are encouraged. Additional
time will be necessary for tests and projects.
Work
that should have been completed in class is not to be
counted in the allotted homework time.
Special projects of appropriate length and short duration
may be included at all grade levels, but must not
significantly violate the spirit of these guidelines.
If you sense that your child is consistently experiencing
an excessive amount of homework, please contact your child's
teacher.
Sometimes
activities to support learning are suggested by primary
teachers. These are done with the cooperation of
parents.
From time to time, for a legitimate reason, your child may
not have completed the assigned homework. To avoid conflict,
please send your child with a note stating the reason for
the incomplete work.
Consequences
for incomplete/missing homework are set in each classroom,
and may include:
- completion
for the next day/period
- private
interview with the student
- contact
with the parent
- detention
during recess or after school
- use
of a homework book
- a
lower grade in the subject(s) involved
- suspension
for habitual neglect of duty
Concerns
and Suggestions
If
problems arise, please express concerns to the appropriate
person. Speak first to the teacher, then, if
necessary, to the principal or vice-principal. This helps
avoid misunderstandings and allows us to act upon concerns.
No-one wants unnecessary conflict.

GENERAL
INFORMATION
School
Telephone
The
school telephones should be used by students only in
emergencies, and always with permission of staff.
Lost
and Found
Please
label clothing. Found articles will be kept in boxes.
Students are not to bring valuables such as money,
gameboys, jewellery, CD players, special books, trading
cards, or breakables, to school. We are not
responsible for these. Unclaimed items will be donated to
local charities.
Volunteers
Volunteers
enhance your child's education. Volunteering shows your
interest, opens the doors to the school, and is a wonderful
opportunity to meet staff and other parents. There are many
ways to volunteer at LaSalle Public School... on a regular
basis, a few times a year, or for a one-time visit. You can
listen to children read, help with art projects, put up
displays of work, help students on the computer, organize
library books, publish student books, or help our school
council.
Please contact your child's teacher, the librarian, the
physical education teachers, or the office staff, if you are
willing to volunteer. There is a volunteer form in the
September newsletter. Please note that volunteers must
consider our students' information as
confidential.
Library/Resource
Centre
Most
classes are scheduled to visit the library at least once a
cycle. Students are taught how to use resources, and they
can select and share books. The centre is also available on
an informal, supervised basis at other times. Children are
responsible for the return of books in good condition.
Lost or damaged books must be replaced at the student's
cost.
Physical
Education
Physical
Education helps children develop good health habits,
positive attitudes, an active lifestyle, physical fitness,
bone and muscle growth, and skill in sports. It helps
students release stress and play cooperatively. All students
are to participate in physical education classes unless, in
exceptional circumstances, they have a note from a parent or
physician. For safety reasons, students are to wear
rubber?soled shoes in the gym, and they are not to wear
necklaces or chew gum. Students must not be in the gym,
change rooms, or on stage, without adult supervision.
Students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 must change into
appropriate clothes for gym.
Field
Trips
Field
trips make studies more interesting. Parents will be
notified of all field trips prior to their occurrence. A
complete permission slip is required of each child before
he/she may attend.

STUDENT
RESPONSIBILITIES
School
Dress Code
School
clothing should be clean, properly fitted, in good taste,
and in a style suitable for class. It should also be
appropriate for the weather. Students are not to wear
clothing with inappropriate slogans or pictures (smoking,
drinking, drugs, sex, profanity, violence, racism, or other
messages contrary to the values taught by the school). Do
not wear bare midriff or halter tops, spaghetti straps
without a t-shirt underneath, tops or pants which show
underwear, muscle shirts, cut?offs, or spandex/lycra
shorts/pants. Shorts must be fingertip length. Hanging
chains are not allowed. Hats/bandanas may not be worn
indoors. Face and hair paint are not appropriate for school.
Gum is not allowed in school.
The
Essex Tech Centre class for Grades 7 and 8 requires, for
safety, that students wear close?toed shoes, shirts with
short sleeves, and long hair tied back.
Graduation
Dress
Clothing
should be appropriate for an elementary school graduation.
Tuxedos, formal prom dresses, and limousines are strongly
discouraged for this occasion. Clothing should be
suitable for a "family event" or what you would wear to your
place of worship.
Lockers
Only a combination lock, whose combination is
registered at the office, may be used. Key locks are
prohibited. School administrators have the right to
inspect lockers and their contents. (See below.)
Follow locker rules:
1.
Do not tape or glue anything in the locker.
2. Do not leave food, drinks, or valuable items in
it.
3. Give the code of the combination lock to staff.
4. Do not open another student's locker.
Student
Searches
Enforcing
school rules may occasionally, in some circumstances,
require a search of students and their personal property and
seizure of prohibited items. A decision to search will
always be based on a reasonable belief there has been a
breech of school rules or discipline, and that a search will
reveal evidence of the misconduct.
The principal or vice-principal has the duty to carry out an
investigation to learn the nature and extent of an alleged
wrongdoing. Desks and lockers are considered school
property, and school staff are allowed to search them. The
principal or vice?principal may conduct a search of a
student's possessions or any area of the school where
his/her belongings may be stored.
If
possible, searches will be carried out in the presence of
another person. If a student may have a dangerous weapon or
illegal drug, police will be contacted immediately.
Parents/Guardians will be informed at the earliest
convenience.

Other
Student Responsibilities
- Obey
school and classroom rules.
- Follow
instructions of school staff.
- Speak
respectfully to all staff and students.
- Take
care of school materials and the environment.
- Attend
school faithfully and on time.
- Do
all assigned work to the best of one's
ability.
- Give
parents information sent home by the school.
Consequences
As
a result of misbehaviour, a student may have to:
- apologize
orally or in writing
- report
the behaviour to his/her parent and ask for help in
solving the problem
- clean
up mess or pay for damage caused
- be
removed temporarily from the classroom
- complete
an assignment in a detention setting
- sit/stand
alone at recess to "think out" the problem
- perform
some community service
- meet
with teacher, principal/designate and/or
parents
- lose
the privilege of an activity or field trip
- be
suspended from the bus for one or more days
- be
suspended from school
- be
expelled
School
teams may be established throughout the year. Since teachers
volunteer to coach sports events, any student, regardless of
skill level, may not be chosen to participate, if his/her
self-discipline is not acceptable.
Computer
Equipment
Classes
are scheduled on a regular basis in the lab, and there is a
computer available in each classroom, as well. Computers are
only to be used with adult supervision. Students in Grades
4-8 must have a Computer Contract signed before computer use
at school. Our board's Acceptable Use Policy makes
students accountable for using computer technology to
'affect the moral tone of the school', whether at home or at
school. This includes slander on a website. Students
are expected to use good judgement regarding use of
computers.
All
software must be approved by the principal or computer
contact teacher. Only authorized, licensed software may be
installed on any of the hard drives. Software brought
from home may not be used. Some equipment, such as
scanners or digital cameras, can be used only by students
who have been trained by staff.
Recesses
Students
with a note to stay in, due to recovery from an illness, may
be allowed to sit in the office or in the hallway for a day
or two. If it is raining, or if wind chill is a concern,
recess is cancelled.
However, most students can enjoy some fresh air if
they are dressed appropriately, and we encourage that.

LASALLE
PUBLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL
The
LaSalle Public School community values the contributions of
parents and other partners involved in education. We
believe that the quality of the programs and services
offered to its students can be improved and enhanced by
building stronger board, staff, parent, student, and
community relations. Our School Council provides a forum for
people interested in public education to work cooperatively
to develop common goals and to plan how to achieve these
goals at the school level.
LaSalle
Public School has established its School Council in
accordance with regulations established by the
Board.
Membership
of the School Council shall include, but not be limited
to:
1.
Parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school
2. Community representatives
3. Teacher(s) assigned to the school
4. A non-teaching staff member
5. The school principal
Parents/guardians
shall form the majority of the School Council, and the
membership of the School Council will reflect the diversity
of the school community. All members of the School Council
are equal partners. Our council meetings tend to be
informal, with decisions formed by consensus.
Membership
of the Council shall be determined in the following
manner:
1.
Parents/guardians shall be elected by parents/guardians
of students enrolled in the school.
2. Community representatives shall be appointed by the
School Council, and should not exceed the number of
elected parent representatives.
3. Teacher representatives shall be elected by members of
the teaching staff.
4. Non-teaching employees shall be elected by
non-teaching employees assigned to the school.
5. The school principal shall be a designated
member.
The
term of office for elected or appointed positions on the
Council shall not exceed two years. Elected and appointed
members may seek additional terms. Vacancies during a school
year shall be filled by appointment to the Council after
consultation with the appropriate representative group.
Subcommittees of the School Council can be formed.
Membership on the subcommittees may include members of the
Council, as well as parents, staff, and members of the
school community. The size of the Council should not exceed
25 members. There will be no honorarium or mileage paid to
members of Council.
LaSalle
Public School Council will be elected early in September.
Please support our school by attending our monthly meetings.
We encourage the input of all families, and we appreciate
any help you can give. Please see the yellow volunteer sheet
that we send home.

HEAD
LICE INFORMATION
Head
lice are a nuisance, but they do not carry disease. Having
head lice, or pediculosis, does not imply lack of
cleanliness. Head lice do not jump, but they are easily
transmitted from one person to another through head-to-head
contact, sharing of pillows at slumber parties, exchanging
hats, combs or brushes, or
leaving hooded coats in a pile.
Nits
are tiny, whitish, oval?shaped eggs that cling to the base
of the hair shaft. They are often found along the hairline
behind the ears. Lice hatch from these eggs within 7 - 10
days, so it is important to remove them, even after
treatment with special shampoo which kills the live
lice.
When
pediculosis is discovered, our policy is that:
1.
A general letter will be sent home with each student in the
class affected, and to any other group deemed necessary by
the principal or designate.
2.
A specific letter will be sent to the parent/guardian of the
infested student, advising them of board policy and the
requirement to complete a "Confirmation of Treatment"
form.
To
treat head lice:
1.
Inform close contacts of the child, and the school
office.
2. Shampoo with a pediculosis product from the
pharmacy.
3. Remove all nits with a nit comb from the pharmacy.
Comb wet hair from the base of the hair shaft to the ends
of the hair. Pull stubborn nits with your nails.
4. Clean house. Vacuum carpets and furniture. Wash
bedding in hot water. Wash coats, hats and scarves. Soak
hair accessories in the pediculosis shampoo for an hour.
Put stuffed toys through a hot dryer.
If
you have questions, please call the Health Unit, 258-2146,
Ext. 257, or
1-800-265-5822, and ask the intake nurse for
help.
Our
policy is that students may return after their hair has been
treated and all nits removed. The
principal/designate will check the child's hair before the
child may return to class.
Our
purpose is simply to keep the children comfortable and to
prevent the spread of head lice. Please be patient
with the process if your child happens to be one of the
students who needs to be treated.

SAFE
SCHOOL POLICIES
LaSalle
Public School has a Code of Conduct which is consistent with
the Board's Safe Schools policy.
Violence is defined as verbal or written threats and/or
physical or emotional harassment, including sexual or racial
abuse, that may impair anyone's health or
welfare.
Zero
tolerance and the "Hands Off" policy will be strictly
enforced. Students are to keep hands and feet to
themselves and practise self?control at all
times.
Bullying,
rough play or teasing are not permitted; play fighting often
leads to real fighting. Play weapons are not permitted.
If a student uses an object as a weapon to strike at
another person, this is a serious offence, and will be dealt
with as such.
Our
staff is diligent about watching for signs of unacceptable
behaviour in the classrooms, the halls, the gym, and the
yard. We encourage any student who feels harassed to: 1)
tell the person to stop 2) walk away 3) tell an adult if the
problem continues.
It
is our firm intent to keep LaSalle Public School safe for
all of the students and staff. We want to teach students
non-violent problem-solving.
If
a student commits an act of violence:
1.
The principal or designate will investigate to determine
all the facts surrounding the incident.
2. The student will not return to class until a parent
has been contacted.
3. The principal or designate will inform the parents of
the disciplinary action as outlined in Board Policy.
4. The incident will be recorded in the behaviour log at
the office.
5. A serious first offence and all subsequent offences
will result in suspension.
If
a student brings a weapon to school, the above steps will be
followed. The weapon will be confiscated, and the police
will be contacted.
If
a student willfully destroys school property, the above
steps will be followed, and the parent of the student will
be required to make restitution. If a student swears
at an adult, the student will be
suspended.
Proactive
Measures
We have programs in place to teach students good
decision?making and alternatives to violence. These include
Second Step (Grades 1-5), Playground Coaches,
Student Mediators, Games Club, and V.I.P.
(Grade Six). Students are reminded to respect others and
play safely.
