Each year the centre hosts technology challenges which are day-long events held at the Essex Tech Centre.  Any school in the Greater Essex County District School Board can enter a team of four with a  chaperone to compete against other schools. 

A design challenge is presented at the beginning of the day.  School teams will then design and build a mechanism or structure to meet the challenge requirements.  A design portfolio documenting the team and their days activities is also a requirement.  Each product is then tested for it's efficiency.

 The "Mousetrap Car" challenge and the "Lego Lift" have been popular events over the past few years.  Medals and school plaques are presented to the winning teams.   What fun and a day off school!
